Applied Genomics develops novel tools useful for the detection and classification of human cancer. We accomplish this by having developed a process whereby complex gene expression data is used to target antibody production and generate datasets of protein expression across thousands of tumor tissues. AGI has used these reagents and datasets to reveal a novel approach towards classification of cancer with great potential to account for the clinical variation among patients that clinicians have observed for decades.

The company’s headquarters is located within the Hudson Alpha Institute in Huntsville, AL. The Institute was founded in part by Jim Hudson, also a director of Applied Genomics, and was created to advance the field of personalized medicine by translating genomic discoveries to the clinic in a streamlined and efficient way. The company has also recently created its own CLIA-regulated clinical reference lab located within AGI’s facility and is now able to run its two launched products, Pulmotype and Mammostrat, in house. The company also has a research facility located in Burlingame, CA.

Applied Genomics initially began from a collaboration between Stanford University and Research Genetics located in Huntsville, AL (later acquired by Invitrogen, Inc.). AGI was founded in 2000 by Robert Seitz, CEO of AGI and previous founder and Director of the Antibody Department at Research Genetics, and Douglas T. Ross, MD, PhD, Chief Scientific Officer of AGI and former postdoctoral fellow in Patrick Brown's laboratory at Stanford University.
